Cynthia Graham, Jeff Kennedy and Floyd Sauls) are ready to
designate teachers and officers for the new year. The committee
has asked for you to let your preferences be known by July 23rd.
Are you ready to take on a new challenge by teaching a class? Would
you like to work with the youth? Would you like to help with
technology and the slide show presentations? Do you enjoy arts
and crafts and would like to use this talent in the church? Please
contact a committee member and express your interest in working
in a new position or maintaining your current jobs. It is interesting that
it seems the more you “give” to your church in serving the Lord, the
more you “receive”.

A word about Relay for Life......On Thursday night, the Survivor's Banquet was held at First PH Church in Goldsboro. Attending from Selah were Tom and Jean Frey, Donna and Charlie Thomas, and Virginia Bunn with her husband. They were all very inspired by speaker Tanya Matthews, breast cancer survivor . She has many ties to the Grantham
community. On Friday night, betwixt and between all the WONDERFUL COOLING SHOWERS, we celebrated at the Relay for Life under our tent with approximately 60 Grantham Middle-School students and their parents, and many Selah Church members who came out to brave the weather. The luminaries were lit, even if the bags themselves were soaked, and the tracks were lined with lights for many cancer patients. The Grantham School team has raised nearly $16,000 and is still turning in money. If you had meant to make a donation but haven't, please do so before Thursday as that is final bank night for this year's Relay. Thanks to everyone who donated, walked, sponsored or helped in any way. The wonderful spirit of God was present all around on all the faces. Please join us next year

Be sure to join us this evening at 6:00 for a hotdog supper, the showing of the movie, “Fireproof,” and snacks. This event is hosted by the youth. Following is a synopsis of the movie:
“At work, inside burning buildings, Capt. Caleb Holt lives by the old firefighter's adage: Never leave your partner behind. At home, in the cooling embers of his marriage, he lives by his own rules. After seven years of marriage, Caleb and Catherine Holt have drifted so far apart that Catherine wishes she had never married. Neither one understands the pressures the other faces--he as firefighter and she as the public relations director of a hospital. Regular arguments over jobs, finances, housework, and outside interests have readied them both to move on to something with more sparks. As the couple prepares to enter divorce proceedings, Caleb's father challenges his son to commit to a 40-day experiment he calls 'The Love Dare.' Wondering if it's even worth the effort, Caleb agrees, but more for his father's sake more than for his marriage. When Caleb discovers the book's daily challenges are tied into his parents' newfound faith, his already limited interest is further dampened. While trying to stay true to his promise, Caleb becomes frustrated time and again. He finally asks his father, 'How am I supposed to show love to somebody who constantly rejects me?' When his father explains that this is the love God shows to us, Caleb makes a life-changing commitment to love God. And--with God's help--he begins to understand what it means to truly love his wife. But is it too late to fireproof his marriage? His job is to rescue others. Now Caleb Holt is ready to face his toughest job ever--rescuing his wife's heart”.

The Gary Britt Fundraising Committee met last Sunday at FCUMC with
approximately 87 people in attendance. Word has spread and more and more churches and organizations, as well as friends of Gary Britt, are joining in to help with this worthwhile cause. At this point, 3000 tickets are out, and we are still dispersing them. If you would like to buy or sell tickets, please call Sue Hill @689-2693 after 7 pm on Sunday (out of town). The fundraiser will be Saturday, Feb. 28th at Eureka CC with lunch and supper being served, as well as applejacks. An auction will follow beginning at 7 pm. We need cakes (get your best recipes) as well as items for the auction. Also, if you are available to clean chickens, we will begin at 5 pm on Friday afternoon at Eureka CC. Remember that volunteers are needed to make the plates and serve throughout the day on Saturday. See Shirley Carter or Ed Aswell for more information .on how you can help.

We had a good turn out for the 2009 church planning meeting yesterday morning. The Board will review the proposed schedule of activities and events at the next meeting. Once approved, copies of the tentative Selah calendar of events will be made and distributed to church members.
The youth will sponsor Movie Night at Selah on Sunday, February 15th-Valentine’s Day Weekend. The movie, Fireproof, is a very powerful film to remind us of God’s design for marriage and relationships. The evening will begin with a hot dog supper at 6:00 PM (prepared and served by youth going on the upcoming ski trip). Concessions, popcorn, candy, etc, will also be provided by the youth prior to the movie which will begin at 7:00. All donations will go toward the Selah ski trip.
The group going on the ski trip will also be raising money for the Gary Britt Benefit while in West Virginia. Selah Skiing for Gary Ski-A-Thon will be a way that the youth and adults who are going on the ski trip will be able to help raise money, since the barbecue and sale are on the same weekend as the trip. Skiers will be asking for pledges/much like a walk-a-thon- for each time they ski down the mountain. The money raised will go to Gary’s Benefit.

The Children of Glory Class shopped for our adopted families Dec. 23rd and the True Spirit of Christmas prevailed. It was really amazing
to see Christ working through these precious children as they
picked out items for other children. They had so much joy in their
hearts and were full of good wishes for those they were buying for.
After the shopping, the class went to Pizza Inn where they enjoyed
themselves with the buffet and games.
Jan. 10th, this class will be visiting the Ronald McDonald House in
Greenville and taking the pop tops off drink cans they have been
collecting for the past year. The whole church has been very supportive
of the class and appreciates all the pop tops that have been donated.
Our church gave $1,416.00 for our adopted families. This money was
used to purchase clothes, toys, groceries and gift cards for 3 families.
Ginger Holland and Sue Hill co-chaired this mission project and delivered the items prior to Christmas. All of the families were very appreciative. They were all invited to come to our church, so lets hope and pray that we see them in the near future. Thanks to all of you who were so generous and gave for this project. A special thanks to CMF for their $500.00 to help the families.
The Live Nativity Committee will meet 1-20-09 at 7:00 to review our nativity presentation and make recommendations for future improvements

We have enjoyed working together to tell the story of Christ birth with our Live Nativity, sharing our love with the Suitcases for Wayne County Kids project and fruit baskets for shut-ins, class parties, Christmas crafts with the children, and beautifying our sanctuary and fellowship hall for the Christmas season (including a poinsettia tree made by donations of flowers in memory of and honor of our special loved ones). We will conclude our festivities during this last week before Christmas with caroling and our Christmas program this evening. May each of you have a wonderful and blessed Christmas filled with love as we celebrate the gift of God’s love-His son and saving grace. Jesus wants to have Christmas with you!
